Sarah Okonkwo, CFP

Sarah Okonkwo is a certified financial planner and financial education writer based in Calgary, AB. She holds an M.Sc. in Finance from the University of Calgary and earned her CFP designation while working at an independent advisory firm, where she spent six years helping clients navigate the full spectrum of financial planning decisions.

In her advisory practice, Sarah saw the same confusion play out hundreds of times: clients who had no idea whether to prioritize their TFSA or RRSP, who were leaving thousands of dollars in tax savings on the table, or who had been sold high-fee products they did not need. The financial industry's reliance on jargon and complexity was not an accident — it kept people dependent on advisors for decisions they could learn to make themselves.

That realization led Sarah to shift her focus from one-on-one advisory work to education at scale. She became a volunteer with Prosper Canada, delivering financial literacy workshops in underserved communities across Alberta, and began writing about tax-efficient investing strategies for a broader Canadian audience.

Sarah joined Northern Investor to help Canadians understand the tax implications of their investment decisions — from TFSA vs RRSP allocation to retirement income planning and forex education. Her approach is methodical, data-driven, and always grounded in current Canadian tax law.
